Amarinth provides API 610 pumps for the West Qurna-2 expansion challenge in Iraq

Amarinth has delivered two separate orders of API 610 pumps, collectively price £1.2 million, for the West Qurna-2 enlargement project in Iraq.

West Qurna-2, positioned approximately 65 km north-west of the seaport town of Basra, is one of the world’s largest onshore oilfields. The expansion venture is expected to extend the oilfield’s production capacity from the current four hundred,000 barrels oil per day (bpd) to 480,000 bpd, with a target to achieve a total production capability of 800,000 bpd by 2025.
The first order, from Cannon Artes, was for seven tremendous duplex API 610 OH1 pumps. The bespoke designed pumps are for a low shear utility and required specialist Plan 53B seal assist methods incorporating air cooled seals and stainless-steel accumulators. All electrical items had been IECEx certified to be used in an ATEX Zone 2 hazardous space. Despite the worldwide Covid-19 pandemic through the design and manufacture, supply was achieved within the required time of simply 32-weeks from order.
The second order, from SICIM, was for three super duplex API 610 OH3 vertical in-line pumps for produced water therapy. The large pumps had impellers of over 500mm diameter and the casings, that weigh 1.5 tonnes, were solid in a foundry within the UK. Plan 53B seal support systems had been designed to fit inside a constrained footprint and because the pumps were destined for an ATEX Zone 2 area, the motors, seal assist systems, and instrumentation have been IECEx certified.
