An explosion at a manufacturing unit has left two staff injured in Samut Prakan province close to Bangkok. The incident occurred yesterday when a newly purchased chopping tool malfunctioned. The system had been in use for only a few hours when it exploded, severely injuring the employees. The manufacturing facility specialises in recycling old car air conditioners.
The explosion occurred round 5.30pm yesterday within the manufacturing unit inside Soi Bang Pla 20 in Bang Pla Subdistrict, Bang Phli District. The two injured employees were found amid the wreckage, one severely injured with lacerations throughout his face and physique, while the other had fragments embedded under his proper eye and forehead however was still conscious.
Upon inspection, it was found that the manufacturing facility was a single storey constructing. Despite the explosion, the construction remained intact. The emergency services from Ramathibodi Samut Prakan Hospital and the local hearth department shortly attended to the scene, offering first assist before speeding the victims to Chunlathorn 3 Hospital.

Pibul stated that he and his colleague were performing their usual duties of dismantling outdated automotive air conditioners to retrieve recyclable aluminium components. The explosion occurred as his colleague was using the newly bought software to chop through an outdated dryer cylinder. Pibul was sitting about 3 metres away from his colleague when he heard the explosion and was pelted by hot fragments. When he regained consciousness, he observed his co-worker on the ground, wailing in pain.
Another injured worker, Natthakit Thanompatt, talked about that he had just purchased the software yesterday afternoon. He had been using comparable tools for normal slicing operations and had not encountered any problems till this incident. While they last suspected that the explosion was attributable to the cutter blade shattering whereas in operation, which induced a secondary explosion within the electric motor. The blast wounded him with fragments from the shattered blade and hot sparks from the explosion..
